VI-TRAIN – new projekt started NEW!
In order to guarantee longevity & usability of European Heritage it is inevitable to keep up with the requirements of society like new technology and digitisation. The Covid19 crisis added some urgency to the issue as training organisations strongly suffer from restrictions and new rules, which are threatening traditional education and training activities. Especially in regards to hands-on training, where instructors need to get really close to learners in order to teach practical skills.
The consortium of VI-TRAIN takes on the challenge of developing innovative training for traditional/threatened crafts and handling of building damages. A big focus is given to crafts that are almost nowhere trained any more. Lots of those crafts do need a lot of experience and guidance by experienced craftspeople. This training in particular will be boosted by various digitisation support.
The objectives of VI-TRAIN are:
- to identify appropriate means of distance learning for the training of craftspeople (manual work),
- to identify appropriate means of online cooperation in hands-on training
- to derive success criteria for highly accepted digital solutions
- to develop and test a virtual/3D-crafts training system
- to develop and test a virtual/3D-buidling damage identification training system
- to investigate and test options overcoming restrictions
- to develop a train-the-trainer system for application of selected tools in training of traditional crafts
Participants of the courses developed in VI-TRAIN can obtain a European certificate by ECQA (
www.ecqa.org).
VI-TRAIN nicely enriches the offer of The European Heritage Academy (EHA), which will be in charge of delivering VI-TRAIN training courses after completion of the project.

The European Heritage Academy – is back
The European Heritage Academy offers further education in the field of historic buildings - and that for all interested parties / specialists from all over Europe. Behind EHA, as the Academy is called in brief, stand Burghauptmannschaft Oesterreich (BHOe) and the Federal Monuments Office Austria (BDA) as holders. The UBW
management consultancy Wagenhofer GmbH/Ltd provides appropriate trainers.
Since beginning of June 2021 regular training sessions are taking place again. Of course, strictest
safety/security measures are applied, so
security is guaranteed to everyone involved is on the safe side. The actual dates for the current courses
here. EHA courses are offered on an ongoing basis and, together with e-learning, form the basis for certification by the ECQA - European Certification and Qualification Association (
www.ecqa.org), an international association based in Austria.

Horizon 2020 project PRO-Heritage – is on a good way
The Horizon 2020 project PRO-Heritage aims to integrate historical buildings more into national climate change and energy policy. In relation to suitable techniques and procedures this makes perfect sense. However, it is a challenge and can only be achieved by excellently trained craftsmen and trainees in the relevant craft. In the future, the PRO-Heritage training materials will be available for download on the EHA's
relaunched e-learning platform.
The
curriculum is also almost finished and can be downloaded in it’s second generation. Currently the project partners are preparing the next
conference for PRO-Heritage. The event is scheduled for October 6, 2021. Like last year, it will be an hybrid event, i.e. a combination of physical and virtual participation at Charterhouse Mauerbach. A preliminary programme of the
symposium will be available in July.
Contact with other EU projects in the field of “Sustainable Energy Skills in the Construction Sector” has been intensified and leads to interesting synergies for everyone involved. The declared goal is to increase cooperation and even better disseminate the project results. On the website
Relevant Studies - PRO-Heritage you will find selected projects related to renewable energy and the construction industry, whereby PRO-Heritage plays a special role with its focus on historical buildings.

Cultural Heritage Label and EHL@Network – is very active
The EHL@N network is becoming more publicly known since March 2021. A photo competition has been organised and the winners are presented online. In a public voting the best pictures have been selected and can now be admired on the website. The aim of the competition was to promote the fundamental EHL values, which are based on the principles of freedom, democracy, respect for human rights, cultural and linguistic diversity, tolerance and solidarity. They are all represented by the European Heritage Label and the sites awarded with it. The images are each accompanied by a personal story, related to the site and the values associated with it.
The consortium is currently developing a “Comic Book” that will be available from autumn 2021. At the same time, the EHL sites prepare their “Value Stories”, i.e. the history of each site in relation to the values it represents. You will soon find these “Value Stories” on the EHL@N
website.
Of course, the project partners will continue to work on a series of webinars, with the help of which EHL sites can better implement the findings of the monitoring process. All EHL sites will be able to take part in these webinars.
This ensures the
preservation of the label and the EHL sites can utilise the monitoring for improvement of their offer and their services.

FLIP2-INCREAS – is setting trends
The INCREAS pilot project has picked up speed and is working closely with the sister project FLIP1 and the blueprint project CHARTER. The first of a total of 50 workshops have already taken place and brought interesting results. One of them is the implementation of a special workshop on statistical data for the Cultural Heritage sector. So far, the data from
ESCO, NACE Codes and
CPA has only been available in isolation. On a closer look, there are currently no profound statistics for the sector. A good example would be the report by Kreativwirtschaft Austria, which usefully links the essential data.
Together with the EU Commission, an attempt was made in a separate workshop on June 17, 2021 to define a more
meaningful structure, in order to obtain better statistical data for the Cultural Heritage sector. In addition to the implementation of further workshops, the project partners are also preparing the
symposium on October 7, 2021
in the Mauerbach Charterhouse. This year, too, there will be an hybrid event, i.e. a combination of physical and virtual participation at Charterhouse Mauerbach. A preliminary program of the symposium will be available in July 2021.

New European Bauhaus – is a new initiative
Initiated by the European Commission, the aim of the new European Bauhaus is to make the Green Deal a cultural, human-centred and positive, tangible experience. Everyone should
be able to feel, see and experience the green and digital transformation and the way it enhances our quality of life. It is about bridging the global challenges with the local solutions to achieve our climate targets and support a broader transformation perspective.
The New European Bauhaus (NEB) is about our daily lives, focusing on better living together in more beautiful, sustainable and inclusive places. Its objective is to articulate, in an innovative way, three key dimensions:
- sustainability (including circularity),
- aesthetics (and other dimensions of the quality of experience beyond functionality)
- inclusion (including accessibility andaffordability)
(Source: prizes.new-european-bauhaus.eu)
Burghauptmannschaft Austria will contribute to the NEB as best as possible. As a first step, two projects were submitted on the subjects
- Building in the sense of the circular economy
- Preservation and transformation of Cultural Heritage
for the NEB award. A total of ten categories (https://prizes.new-european-bauhaus.eu/themes/custom/regiostars/docs/guide-to-applicants/EN.pdf) were available for submission.
In addition, existing project results, such as country reports and other relevant documents, were made available to on the NEB website (https://europa.eu/new-european-bauhaus/index_en).
Active participation in pilot projects and network activities are also planned.
